Ginger Tea

Kaki!

It’s concert week this week, meaning I have choir rehearsal for SOMANYHOURS.  At the end of the evening when I finally get home, this is what I make before bed.  It’s soothing for the throat and also tasty as all get out.

Also, in case it isn’t totally obvious yet?  I.  Heart.  Ginger.

Ginger Tea

makes one tasty beverage

inspired by TheKitchn

  • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced into very thin slices
  • 1 good glug honey (maybe ½ tablespoon, or more to taste)
  • 1 quarter of a lemon
  • water, boiling
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon or brandy (optional)

Place the peeled ginger slices in the bottom of a large mug. Pour the honey on top of the ginger. Squeeze the lemon wedge into the mug to extract most of the juice, then toss the lemon wedge itself into the mug.

Pour boiling water over the ingredients in the mug and let steep for five minutes or so. Stir to incorporate all of the flavors from the bottom of the mug throughout the water.

Add a touch of bourbon or brandy if you’re so inclined, and stir it in.

Sometimes I add a little ground turmeric or cinnamon or a couple of leaves of any fresh herbs that I have lying around.  Do you have any go-to winter tonics to recommend, Kaki?

See you soon, my dear!
